Background/Expertise
Josh joined Ford Sumner Lawyers in June 2026, bringing a strong track record in capital markets regulation and corporate governance. Before entering private practice, he spent several years at NZX Regulation (NZ RegCo), where he played a central role in guiding prospective issuers through listing pathways, providing guidance to listed companies on capital raisings, complex transactions, and ongoing compliance with the NZX Listing Rules. His work frequently involved high-stakes, technical matters requiring sound judgment, regulatory insight and engagement with senior executives, external counsel and other market regulators.
Josh’s regulatory background is complemented by significant public-sector corporate governance experience. During his time in the corporate secretariat team at ACC, he provided governance support to the ACC Board, its committees, and senior leadership on corporation-level delegations, and statutory compliance.
Admitted in 2018, Josh is recognised for his pragmatic, detailed approach and his ability to translate complex regulatory and legal issues into clear, commercially grounded advice. His combined experience across capital markets, regulatory compliance and governance gives him a unique perspective when supporting clients.
Outside of work, you’ll find Josh exploring the food scene of whichever city he’s in, catching live music from the whole spectrum of genres, planning his next trip overseas, or hitting the gym for his next PB.
